What is the nature of the partnership?

MBSA and Team Steel TX are working together to provide a healthy select baseball and softball option for the youth in McKinney and for those athletes that have been a part of MBSA. By partnering with Team Steel TX, an established select organization on the national level, MBSA is able to provide a glide path for the youth players that long for strong competition.

Why is the partnership beneficial for MBSA families & players?

Team Steel TX will provide baseball and softball camps in McKinney, as well as a Coaches Clinic to make sure our recreational teams are getting coached properly. The Recreational Player Development Program, credited by funds from Team Steel TX, will be able to provide private lessons, on a lottery basis, to the recreational youth players in MBSA.

How will this partnership be managed?

This partnership will be managed by the MBSA Board of Directors Team Steel Liason and the Team’s Director for Team Steel TX.

What are the key goals of the partnership?

The key goals of the partnership are to provide our youth baseball and softball players with a glide path to select baseball and softball, while providing our recreational baseball and softball players the tools and opportunities to grow.

I am a MBSA Rec-Advanced coach and have a handful of players on my team who are ready for more advanced competition. What is the best way to go about making my team a Steel Team?

Is there a city of McKinney residency requirement to be able to play?

No. However, at least 75% of Steel players have to be current or former MBSA players.

Is the 75% rule of Steel players needing to be current or former MBSA players for each individual team?

No. The 75% rule is an accumulation of the Team Steel TX registrations.

What if my child played only one season in MBSA several years ago, do they count toward the 75%?

Yes. It is our goal to bring back all MBSA youth players, whether it be one season or several.

Are coaches paid?

Yes. With Team Steel TX’s parent company being a publicly traded company, coaches are required to be paid.

How much are coaches paid?

Can a coach have a child on the team?

Yes.

Can my child be on a MBSA Rec-Advanced team and play on a Steel team too?

Yes. They must play in the Advanced division of their Steel team’s age bracket (ie, 9U Steel Team, player must play in 9U Rec-Advanced). See select player rules in MBSA Policies and Procedures.

Can my child be on a MBSA Rec team and play on a Steel team too?

Select players playing in divisions up to and including 12U may not play in the “Recreational” sub-division.

Are Team Steel TX teams tournament only?

No. Team Steel TX will play in several tournaments per season; however, they will be required to play in a Comp division or up one age bracket in the Rec-Advanced division.

What if there are scheduling conflicts?

If there are scheduling conflicts, please notify the appropriate coach of your conflict update your availability.

Does this mean MBSA is moving away from "rec" leagues to "travel/select" leagues?

No. Our primary focus has always been, and will continue to be, recreational baseball and softball. MBSA is merely expanding the opportunities for our players who are ready for that level of competition
